Dynamic Modeling and Performance Analysis of PMSG- based Variable Speed WTG: Case Study of Adama Wind Farm I, Ethiopia

In this paper, the performance of Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generator (PMSG) -based Variable Speed Wind Turbine (WTG) at Adama Farm I (WTG), connected to a grid is studied. To study WTG, both machine and side converters are modeled analyzed very well. On side, maximum power point tracking (MPPT) for energy extraction done using direct speed control (DSC) technique, which linked with optimal tip ratio each wind value considered. dc-link voltage reactive flow controlled. For purpose, first, simulation model system prepared in MATLAB Simulink considering dynamic mathematical PMSG, Aerodynamic user-defined function blocks. Then, PI regulators designed speed, torque (current) control, employed model. Moreover, analyze behavior variable operation, starting from cut-in (3m/s) rated (11m/s) applied 4s. The result existing shows that actual values variables correspond well analytical system. addition, chosen algorithms generator-side converter hence verified.
